Falmouth

Welcome to Falmouth

Quintessential Cape town comprising eight distinct villages and more than 68 miles of beautiful, scenic coastline

Falmouth is a quintessential Cape town in Barnstable County known for its 68+ miles of coastline dotted with white sand beaches, a charming and walkable downtown district, stunning homes, and plenty of things for families to see and do. This coastal town is active all year, although it does become more popular during the summer months as people flock to the beaches.

Over the years, the Falmouth has fostered a strong sense of community by preserving its antiquity across centuries of history. With eight quaint villages––Falmouth, East Falmouth, Hatchville, North Falmouth, Teaticket, Waquoit, West Falmouth, and Woods Hole––each with its own distinct personality, Falmouth really does offer something for everyone.

What to Love

People & Lifestyle

Depending on your lifestyle, you’ll find a variety of options when it comes to neighborhoods and housing in Falmouth. If you want to live in the middle of where everything is happening, you’ll appreciate living in Falmouth Village, while those with a preference for a rural lifestyle might settle on Hatchville. Wherever you live, most necessities are within walking distance as this pedestrian-friendly town has lots of sidewalks and, as a tourism hotspot, many restaurants are located near the beach and easy to walk to if you want a post-beach day meal.

Ultimately, anywhere you choose to reside in Falmouth will put you in the vicinity of one of the town’s public beaches. Falmouth residents also love taking advantage of the Shining Sea Bikeway, which allows families to bike from North Falmouth to Woods Hole without ever needing to get in a car. Bolstered by its strong community, Falmouth is a fantastic place to raise children because of its safe community and wonderful school system. It’s one of Cape Cod’s only Preserve America-designated communities, home to seven historic districts.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Falmouth has a reputation for hosting excellent restaurants, to the point that people come from off the Cape to dine as much as they do from on the Cape. The C Salt Wine Bar & Grille spices up the dining scene with its lively kitchen and upscale American cuisine served in a warm space, plus a bar area and patio.

Housed inside a historic building, Pickle Jar Kitchen is a unique and popular breakfast and lunch spot using wholesome and natural ingredients for cooking up fresh and delicious dishes. You’ll definitely want to purchase some of their housemade pickled vegetables to-go, such as the garlic-dill cukes, marinated mushrooms, olives, and capers, and the “Mexi-Cali” carrots and jalapeno.

Are you in the mood for Tex-Mex? Look no further than Añejo Mexican Bistro, Cape Cod’s favorite taqueria. This hip, stylish bar serves savory Mexican-style street food and a variety of tequila drinks. Waterfront dining doesn’t get more scenic (or tasty) than at Water Street Kitchen in Woods Hole. Enjoy fresh, local fare made from scratch paired with craft cocktails.

Things to Do

Spend a night out with friends at Bad Martha’s Brewery and Tasting Room. With a 15-barrel brewing system, all of your brewing needs will be met for on-site creations. Alongside their delicious brews, Bad Martha’s serves crudité, charcuterie, cheese plates, and specialty artisan pizzas. Dance the night away or play a game in their spacious outdoor setting as you sample beer and relax!

The historic Highfield Hall estate and gardens is a venue for art shows, heritage exhibits, and concerts. Despite the elegance and grandeur of this 19th-century house, Highfield Hall has been repurposed as a vibrant cultural center with beautiful gardens to explore and peaceful walking trails weaving throughout the conservation land.

Nobska Light is a restored and beloved Cape Cod landmark perched on the peninsula’s southwestern tip, in Woods Hole. There are also plans to develop the Keeper’s House into a maritime museum.

Schools

Falmouth is home to a wonderful, highly-rated public school system including East Falmouth, Mullen-Hall, North Falmouth, and Teaticket, which serve pre-kindergarten to fourth grade. The main middle schools are Morse Pond and Lawrence Junior High, while most students attend Falmouth High for grades ninth through twelfth.

Falmouth Academy is a local co-ed, private, college-preparatory day school for students from grades seventh through twelfth.
